Nebraska Gears Up for First Day of Full Pads

Lincoln -- The Huskers hit the Field Turf inside Memorial Stadium for their fourth workout of fall camp.  Nebraska practiced in half-pads for two-and-a-half  hours in cool weather.

Through four days of fall workouts, head coach Bill Callahan is pleased with his team’s attitude.

“Our guys have worked extremely hard.  It’s good to see the attitude and the work ethic are still there and that we continue to make strides,” said Callahan.

After two days of sweat clothes workouts followed by two days of half-pads workouts, Nebraska will put on the full pads tomorrow.  Callahan likes the progressive format the Huskers have followed during preseason camp.

“This is a good format with the four days of acclimation where you get to progress into pads,” Callahan said.  “It’s been a real positive.”

Going with full-pad attire allows the team to get work in important facets of football, according to Callahan.

“We have a chance to get into some isolated scrimmage situations where we don’t beat up the team, but get some work in necessary areas.  We’ll try to be as smart as we can, and try to keep the guys fresh and healthy while still getting in the work we need,” Callahan said.

Nebraska moved into Memorial Stadium for today’s workout due to recent rains in Lincoln.

“Our grass outside is a little soft. I didn’t want to go out there and chance any pulls.  I thought it would be to our players’ advantage to be on a firm surface that they’ve practiced and trained on,” said Callahan.

Nebraska practices for the fifth straight day tomorrow afternoon at 2:45 before holding their first day of two practices on Saturday.
