Huskers Greet Fans at Volleyball Ticket Event

Lincoln -- With the 2004-05 academic year on the way, anticipation for the upcoming athletic season is reaching a fevered pitch. To thank the "Greatest Fans in the Country," returning members of the Nebraska volleyball team will be on hand Wednesday, Aug. 4, when single-game tickets go on sale to the public at 8 a.m. at the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office.

Nebraska plays its home matches at the NU Coliseum, one of the premiere venues in the nation. Nebraska fans have made it a daunting place for opponents to play and sellouts occur on a regular basis. Tickets for individual matches cost just $12, $10, $6 or $4, and fans outside of Lincoln can purchase tickets via the internet at Huskers.com or by calling 1-800-8BIGRED.

Starting at approximately 7:45 a.m., the volleyball team will be at the ticket office to meet fans, thank them for their support and sign autographs. Huskers Authentic, the official store of Nebraska Athletics, will also be open at 8 a.m. when tickets go on sale so fans can purchase the newest, authentic Husker gear.

The Huskers kick off the season on Aug. 28 with the annual Alumni match and Red-White Scrimmage. The first contest of the year comes six days later in Indiana, when the Huskers face Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 3. NU plays Notre Dame for the second straight day on the Sept. 4 and faces Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Monday, Sept. 6, before returning to Lincoln for the home opener against Florida A&M at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, in the First National Bank/Arby’s Classic. NU will also take on Ball State (Sept. 11, 6 p.m.) and Maryland (Sept. 12, 2 p.m.) before getting into Big 12 play on Wednesday, Sept. 15, against Missouri at the NU Coliseum.

Nebraska returns 10 players from last year’s 28-5 squad that reached the NCAA Regional semifinals. Three newcomers who make up one of the top recruiting classes in the nation join the squad as practice opens Tuesday, Aug. 10.
