Lincoln, Neb. ? Sadhaf Pervez, a former standout at Ohio State University, has been named assistant women's tennis coach at Nebraska, Coach Scott Jacobson announced Thursday.
"Sadhaf was a great collegiate player at No. 1 singles for Ohio State where she had a tremendous showing," Jacobson said. "She will add fire, energy and enthusiasm to our program, and she believes in our philosophy."
Pervez comes to the Huskers after completing her degree in business administration (marketing concentration) from Ohio State. She also served as the head junior varsity and assistant varsity boys coach at Upper Arlington (Ohio) High School, where Pervez guided the JV squad to a 10-1 record and first-place conference ranking in the spring.
Before starting her coaching career at the prep level, Pervez was one of the top players in the Big Ten and the nation.
Pervez finished her carer ranked third all-time at OSU in singles victories by collecting 99 wins. She earned a 27-12 record as a senior and added 27 victories as junior to rank sixth on the Buckeyes' single-season victories list. Pervez was named the 2003 ITA Midwest Senior Player of the Year and earned All-Big Ten accolades as a senior, when she was named the team's most valuable and most improved player.
Behind Pervez's solid play, Ohio State earned four straight NCAA Tournament berths, reaching the round of 32 in 2003. She helped the Buckeyes to top 50 national rankings each of her final three years, and reached as high as No. 38 nationally in singles play as a senior.
