Huskers Earn Scholastic All-America Awards

Lincoln - Three University of Nebraska women's golfers earned spots on the National Golf Coaches Association 2003-04 All-America Scholar Teams announced recently by the NGCA.

Stephanie Schaefer, Merynn Ito and Jackie Beste all earned Scholastic All-America honors by posting cumulative grade-point averages above 3.5 while competing in at least two-thirds of Nebraska's scheduled competitions in 2003-04.  Along with ranking among NU's top performers in the classroom last season, Schaefer, Ito and Beste ranked as NU's top three players on the golf course, while starting all 32 rounds for the Huskers.

Schaefer, a 2003-04 senior from Columbus, Neb., carried a 3.552 GPA as a Spanish/Coaching major into the spring semester.  Ito, a junior from Aiea, Hawaii, owned a 3.567 GPA as a news-editorial major.  Beste, a sophomore from Sauk Centre, Minn., produced a 3.88 GPA as an accounting major.

The three NCGA Scholastic All-America awards pushes Nebraska's total to 38 golfers in 17 seasons under Coach Robin Krapfl.
