Lincoln ? Nebraska Head Coach Bill Callahan announced the hiring of Bryan Heard as an administrative assistant with the Cornhusker football program Thursday. Heard replaces Lance Leipold, who was named offensive coordinator at Nebraska-Omaha earlier this spring.
In his role with the Husker football program, Heard will help coordinate unofficial and official visits for visiting prospects and their families. He will also assist Associate A.D/Football Tim Cassidy in day-to-day operations such as clinics, summer camps and with team travel.
"Bryan brings experience from working with three different universities and two different football programs," Callahan said. "He is a young and vibrant person who has an excellent administration background and will add to the Nebraska standard of excellence."
Heard said joining Callahan’s staff provides him with an outstanding opportunity to further advance his career in football.
"Coach Callahan’s arrival provided for a unique opportunity, especially as he brings a new system and atmosphere into the program," Heard said. "I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to a program that is not only known nationwide for its winning tradition, but for doing things the right way."
Heard comes to NU after working at Texas San-Antonio the past year, where we was an Academic Athletic Services Intern. In that role, he advised and assisted with registering student-athletes, as well as providing academic support serves to student-athletes. Prior to his stint at UTSA, Heard was at Texas A&M from May of 2002 until August of 2003, where he helped with planning and organization of the football program, including recruiting, camps, roster management, team travel and coaches video.
He began his football administrative career as an undergraduate student at Trinity (Texas) University in 2001, where he organized the scout team during practice and assisted in the recruiting of prospective student-athletes and their families. A 2002 graduate of Trinity, he received a bachelor’s in computer science with a minor in business administration.
