Preparations Under Way for Memorial Golf Tournament

Lincoln - The Nebraska softball program will host the third-annual Julie Geis Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, August 13, at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln in honor of former Husker Julie Geis. Proceeds from the event will go to the Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually to a member of the NU softball team.

The entry fee for the tournament is $125 per person or $500 per team. The fee includes green fees, a cart and meals. Participants will also have a chance to bid on great prizes through silent and live auctions. Registration begins at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon and a reception and auction at 5 p.m.

Geis, who was killed in the September 111th attack on the World Trade Center, was a four-year letterwinner for Nebraska from 1976 from 1979. This year marks the third year for the tournament, which hopes to raise enough money to fully endow the Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship.

Once the scholarship is fully endowed, it will live off the interest and will ensure that both the scholarship and Julie Geis live on forever with the Nebraska softball program. It takes $250,000 to fully endow the scholarship and $92,000 have been raised to date.

Sponsorships are also available for the tournament. For more information on becoming a sponsor or making a contribution to the scholarship fund, please click on the above link or contact Anita (A.J.) Jensen with Nebraska softball at (402) 472-8801.
