Lincoln ? A total of 19 Nebraska baseball players were honored Monday with their selection to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll. Nearly half of the 2004 roster (17 of 35 players) along with former Huskers Jeff Leise and Josh Birmingham were among 263 Nebraska student-athletes recognized for their success in the classroom.
Among the honorees during the spring semester include senior Justin Pekarek, who received his degree in management last month, and CoSIDA Academic All-America candidates Jeremy Becker (agricultural engineering), Daniel Bruce (English) and Mike Sillman (business administration). Both Becker and Sillman have been selected to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor every semester at the University of Nebraska ? eight times apiece. Pekarek’s selection was also his eighth on the commissioner’s honor roll. Bruce, a first-team academic All-District VII selection, has earned academic recognition all six semesters at Nebraska.
The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the previous semester. Overall, Nebraska had 263 student-athletes named to the spring honor roll, including 33 who produced perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the spring semester.
