Huskers Announce 2004 Schedule

Lincoln ? A school-record 13 regular-season home games highlight the 19-game 2004 Nebraska soccer schedule, released on Wednesday.

NU welcomes California, Creighton and defending national champion North Carolina to Lincoln to open up the regular season with the adidas Invitational, Aug. 27 and 29. In all, the 2004 schedule features 10 games against teams that qualified for the 2003 NCAA Tournament, including four teams that advanced to the third round or beyond.

Nebraska faces several tough stretches during its 2004 schedule. From Sept. 24 to Oct. 10, NU will compete against 2003 NCAA Tournament teams in four of five matches. That stretch is highlighted by back-to-back Big 12 Conference games against Texas and Texas A&M. In the eight-year history of the Big 12, Texas or Texas A&M has finished either first or second in the league in every season except 1998.

The Huskers’ last three regular-season games should prove to be another difficult stretch. Nebraska travels to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma before hosting defending Big 12 regular-season champion Colorado in the regular-season home finale on Oct. 29. All three teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2003.

The Big 12 Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 3-7 at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. The NCAA Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 12-Dec. 5. Nebraska has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past eight seasons.

The Huskers open next season with an exhibition game at Louisville on Aug. 13, before hosting the program’s first-ever Alumni Game on Aug. 21.
