Huskers Fall to No. 2 Baylor

Norman, Okla. ? The Nebraska men’s tennis team ended the 2004 campaign with a loss to No. 2-ranked Baylor, 4-0, Friday in the first round of the Big 12 Championships.

Playing at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center, the Huskers fell to the top-seeded Bears for the second time this season and finished the year with a 9-13 dual-meet record. Baylor improved to 24-2 with the win and advanced to Saturday's quarterfinal round.

Baylor jumped out to a quick lead by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and 3 slots. Benjamin Becker and Matias Marin, ranked 24th nationally in doubles play, cruised past NU's Joel Reckewey and Justin Junck, 8-3, at the No. 2 position to seal the win after Reiner Neurohr and Ivor Lovrak defeated Gerhard Posch and Ryan Jay, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles for the Bears' first victory of the day.

In singles play, the Bears swept NU in three matches to earn the team victory. Lovrak, ranked No. 119 in the latest ITA poll, pulled away from Reckewey at the No. 6 slot, 6-0, 6-4, before Neurohr pushed past NU's James Clow, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 5 position. Baylor clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-0, win by No. 3-ranked Dorsch over Posch at the No. 1 singles slot.
