Six Huskers Sign Free Agent Contracts

Six members of Nebraska’s 2003 senior class have recently signed free-agent contracts with NFL teams, following the April 24-25 NFL Draft.

All-America punter Kyle Larson has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. Larson averaged a Nebraska season-record 45.1 yards per punt as a senior and was one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award. Larson averaged 43.7 yards per punt in his career and had 66 punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Cornerback Pat Ricketts has joined the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent. Ricketts was a four-year letterman at cornerback who finished his career with six interceptions, 21 pass breakups and 138 tackles. Ricketts will be joined in the Falcons training camp by linebacker Demorrio Williams, who was a fourth-round pick in the draft by Atlanta.

Free safety Jerrell Pippens was the second member of the Nebraska secondary to sign a free-agent deal, joining the San Diego Chargers. Pippens earned four letters and made 98 tackles during his Nebraska career. He will join defensive tackle Ryon Bingham in San Diego, after Bingham was chosen in the seventh round of the draft.

Outside linebacker T.J. Hollowell has signed with the New York Giants. Hollowell was a four-year letterman for the Nebraska defense and finished his career with 173 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss.

Defensive tackle Patrick Kabongo was signed by the Detroit Lions. A native of Montreal, Kabongo earned four letters for the Huskers and made 110 tackles, while breaking up 15 passes for the Blackshirt defense.

I-back Josh Davis was the lone free-agent signee from the Husker offense, joining the New York Jets. Davis finished his Nebraska career with 826 rushing yards and made his biggest mark on special teams. Davis totaled 2,265 yards on kickoff returns in his career, breaking the school and Big 12 Conference records for kickoff return yardage.

The six free-agent signees joined five Huskers who were selected in the draft, including linebacker Demorrio Williams (Atlanta), quarterback Jammal Lord (Houston), center Josh Sewell (Denver), defensive tackle Ryon Bingham (San Diego) and defensive end Trevor Johnson (New York Jets).
