<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>College Station, Texas ? Due to heavy rains, thunder and lightening, the last round of the 2004 Women's Big 12 Golf Championships was cancelled and called final after 36 holes. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

The teams played 18 holes each on Friday-Saturday, April 23-24, at Pebble Creek Country Club’s 6,242-yard, par-72 golf course.  Nebraska’s second-round, 10th-place finish on Saturday will remain the Huskers final score.

Standing out for the Huskers was sophomore Jackie Beste (Sauk Centre, Minn.), who played two solid rounds of golf for a tally of 151 (75-76).  Beste finished in a tie for 14th, her best finish this spring and fourth top-20 finish for the 2003-04 season.

Senior Stephanie Schaefer (Columbus, Neb.) placed in a tie for 25th with a two-round tally of 154. Schaefer’s second round score of 76 was a six stroke drop from her score on Friday.

Rounding out the top-30 golfers was junior Merynn Ito (Aiea, Hawaii), who tied for 30th after shooting a pair of six-over par-78s in the two rounds of action.  Freshman Christine McArdle (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished tied for 47th with a final score of 161 after shooting a first and second round of 81 and 80, respectively.  Not far behind was sophomore Sara Sackett (Cambridge, Neb.), who hit an 84 and 80 over the 36-hole tournament to finish tied for 54th.

The 2004 Big 12 Champion Texas had a first-round low of 292 and finished with a final score of 592.  Nebraska was thirty strokes out away from the first-place Longhorns.  The individual conference champion was awarded to Oklahoma State’s Anne Thurman, who fired a 69 and 68 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Thurman’s seven-under par-137 was a course record for 36 holes.
