It's a Final; Huskers Win 3-0

Lawrence, Kan. - The 21st-ranked Nebraska softball team's 3-0 lead over Kansas turned into a 3-0 victory today, after both schools and the Big 12 conference agreed to call yesterday's game official, despite completing only six innings. On Wednesday, the game was halted after the sixth inning and it was decided that the game would be finished when the two teams met in Lincoln.

With the win, Nebraska (23-11) improved to 3-0 in conference play heading into this weekend's home-opener against No. 19 Baylor, which is currently atop the Big 12 standings. Kansas (20-16) dropped to 0-3 in conference.

Senior right-hander Peaches James (18-5) picked up the win for NU, tossing her 10th shutout of the season. James also fell one strikeout short of tying a season high, finishing the game with 13 punch outs in only six innings of work. James struck out the side in the second, third and sixth innings. Kassie Humphreys (9-6) took the loss for KU.

The game was scoreless through five innings before Nebraska was able to break through in the top of the sixth inning.

After loading the bases in the third and fourth innings but failing to score, the Huskers loaded the bases again in the sixth. Senior Nicole Trimboli provided the game-winning RBI, driving in two Huskers with her double off the wall in center. Junior Sheena Lawrick followed with an RBI groundout to put NU up 3-0.

Nebraska returns to action this weekend, hosting 19th-ranked Baylor at Bowlin Stadium. Saturday's game time is set for 2 p.m. and the two teams will meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats and live radio for both games will be available on Huskers.com.
