James Named Big 12 Player of the Week

Senior pitcher/designated player Peaches James has earned the Big 12 Conference Player-of-the-Week honor for the first time in her career, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. With the award, James, who has earned Big 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week honors each of the past two weeks and three times overall in 2004, became the first Big 12 softball player to ever earn both honors in the same season.

James, the Huskers’ ace, earned this week’s honor on the strength of her performance at the plate. The Papillion-LaVista graduate hit .444 (4-for-7) in Nebraska’s wins at Creighton March 24 and at Oklahoma State March 27 and March 28. James belted three home runs (her first of the season) and posted an amazing 1.444 slugging percentage. She was responsible for the game-winning RBI against OSU Saturday.

On the mound, James (17-5) went 3-0 last week with a 0.88 ERA in 16 innings pitched. James held NU’s opponents to a .078 average and allowed just four hits.

James and the Huskers will travel to Kansas Wednesday, March 31, for a 4 p.m. game before returning to Lincoln for their home-opening weekend. The Huskers play host to Baylor Saturday, April 3, at 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 4, at 1 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
