Huskers Announce Recruiting Class

Lincoln  ? The Huskers will add a great collection of talent and depth to the 2004 Nebraska soccer team with the addition of six newcomers.

The list includes Sari Raber, a Canadian Under-19 standout from Richmond, British Columbia, Jetta Sadusky, a Colorado State Cup most valuable player honoree in 2003, as well as Nebraska natives Kaile Schroff (Lincoln East) and Brigid Kenny (North Platte). Meghan Hungerford rounds out the recruiting class, hailing from Manhattan, Kan., while Canadian National Team member Sasha Andrews has officially transferred from Southern Methodist and joined the Huskers this spring.

Raber will join Canadian Under-19 National Team members Brittany Timko and Tanya Dennis on the 2004 NU team and will bring a great amount of experience to the Huskers. Raber has been a member of the U-19 national team for the last two years and has seen time in 12 contests, including international matches against Japan, Germany, Italy and Trinidad & Tobago.

The Richmond, British Columbia, native started for the U-17 team in an exhibition game against the Huskers on Aug. 13, 2003, where she took two shots and posted one shot on goal. A day earlier she scored two goals in a 6-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha.

The midfielder played for the Sportstown/UBC Alumni Premier team in the national championships in October 2003, and has been a four-time member of the British Columbia Soccer Provincial All-Star team. She is the all-time leading scorer for McMath High School and is a three-time recipient of the McMath Female Athlete-of-the-Year honor.

Sadusky is also a valuable addition to the Huskers, as she comes in as a four-year Colorado Olympic-Development team member, as well as a three-year Region IV team member.

The Littleton, Colo., native was named honorable-mention all-state as a sophomore for Columbine High School. As a member of the Colorado Rush club team, Sadusky led her team to a Colorado state championship in her third season and was named the state cup MVP.

Schroff joins former Lincoln East teammate sophomore Vern Fitzgerald as an outstanding midfielder for the Huskers who will stay home to play collegiate soccer. The 5-9 midfielder is a four-year starter for East and was named to the all-city, all-conference and Class A All-State teams in 2003.

As a junior, Schroff was second in scoring for the Spartans with 24 points on nine goals and six assists from the midfield. Schroff led East to a Nebraska state runner-up finish in 2003, falling 2-1 to Omaha Marian in the championship game.

Schroff has also been a member of the Nebraska state ODP team and has been a pool member of the ODP Region II team. She has helped lead the West Omaha Gladiator Fuerza club team to three consecutive league and Nebraska State Cup championships.

Kenny will join Schroff as the two Nebraska natives in the 2004 recruiting class. The North Platte native broke the NPHS school record as a sophomore for goals scored with 13. Last season, Kenny almost doubled that number, scoring more than 22 goals for the Dawgs.

Kenny is a 4.0 honor roll student and has been named a Wendy’s High School Heisman Nominee. She has been named to the Class A All-State soccer squad and has been named to the honorable-mention all-state team in volleyball and basketball as well.

Hungerford has led Manhattan High School the last two seasons, contributing 29 goals and 10 assists in her sophomore and junior years combined. As a freshman, Hungerford was the team’s second-leading scorer with 11 goals and two assists.

The two-time team captain helped the Indians post two top-four Kansas Class 6A state finishes in the last three years. She was a 6A All-State first team member in 2004 and has been named to the I-70 League All-Conference team for the last two years.

Sasha Andrews joins Timko and Dennis as Canada National World Cup Team members on the 2004 NU squad. Andrews transferred to Nebraska this spring from Southern Methodist University, where she played in 2001 and 2002.

Andrews is a 5-10 defender who started all but two games in her career at SMU. She was named to the Western Athletic Conference first team in 2002, after posting six points on three goals for the Mustangs.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native made her national team debut on March 1, 2002, against Scotland in the Algarve Cup, and saw action again Argentina and the United States in the 2003 Women’s World Cup. She has scored two goals for the national team, with both coming against Mexico in August and September, 2003.

Andrews also played for the Canadian U-19 National Team that fell 1-0 to the United States in the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championships on Sept. 1, 2002.
