Huskers Cruise to 7-0 Win Over UW-Green Bay

Milwaukee, Wis. -- The Nebraska men’s tennis team earned its first shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay Friday night, winning all three doubles matches and taking all six singles contests in straight sets. With the victory, the Huskers snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to 4-5 on the season.

"I thought we played really well tonight," NU Coach Kerry McDermott said. "It is good to be back in the winning column, and it was just a good team effort overall."

Nebraska held the momentum early when it took the doubles point, as the Huskers’ No. 1 duo of Justin Junck and Joel Reckewey, No. 2 team of Jose Rivera and Joerg Barthel and No. 3 team of Ryan Jay and Gerhard Posch were all successful.

Posch also won at No. 1 singles, defeating Ben Davis, 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 2 spot, Barthel beat Tyler Dorn, 6-4, 7-5, and NU’s Rivera was victorious over Eric Hines, 7-5, 7-6, at No. 3 singles. Nebraska picked up three easy wins in the bottom half of the lineup. James Clow beat Mat Weiss, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, and Junck defeated Scott Dickert, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot. At No. 6 singles, Reckewey came out on top against Derek Gonwa, 6-2, 6-2.
