Johnson Named to All-Big 12 Squad

Lincoln -- Senior guard Nate Johnson earned all-league honors for the second year in a row, the Associated Press announced Monday. The Kansas City, Kan., native was selected to the AP honorable-mention All-Big 12 squad for the second straight season. Last year, Johnson was one of two Huskers to earn honorable-mention all-conference accolades, as forward Andrew Drevo was named to the team in a vote of the league's head coaches.

Johnson helped the Huskers to a 16-11 record this season, NU's first winning campaign since 1998-99. He averaged 13.4 points per game during the regular season, including 14.1 points per game in conference play. Down the stretch, he was at his best as he averaged 16.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists over the final nine games of the year. Johnson added a pair of double-doubles in that stretch, including a 17-point, 10-rebound performance in a 72-44 victory over No. 25 Texas Tech, while helping the Huskers to a 5-4 mark, after a 1-6 start in league play.

Johnson scored double figures 20 times this year, including 14 times in 16 conference games, and grabbed a share of the team scoring lead in 11 games. He tied for the team lead with two double-doubles and 20-point contests (three), and was second to John Turek by leading the team in rebounding six times.

Showing major improvements from last year, Johnson finished the regular season hitting 48.7 percent from the field, 43.3 percent from three-point range and 86.5 percent from the charity stripe. He ranked among the top five in the league in three-point and free throw percentage and was 15th in field-goal percentage, the only player in the conference to rank among the top 15 in all three categories. Johnson's free throw percentage is on pace to rank in the top 10 in NU single-season history, while his career mark of 79.4 percent at the line will rank in the Huskers' all-time top five.
