Men?s Tennis Falls to Colorado, 5-2

Boulder, Colo. ? The Nebraska men’s tennis team dropped a tough match to league foe Colorado, 5-2, Saturday in Boulder. With the loss, the Huskers fall to 0-2 in the league and 4-4 overall.

The Huskers lost the doubles point in a highly contested set of matches. Nebraska’s No. 1 duo of Justin Junck and Joel Reckewey stretched CU’s tandem of Marcos Digliodo and Evan Dixon, forcing a tiebreaker before falling 9-8 (5). The Buffaloes picked up the point with an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 doubles slot. The team of Jose Rivera and Joerg Barthel picked up another victory at the No. 2 doubles position, as they defeated Marko Bundalo and Peter Bjork, 8-6.

In singles play, the Huskers picked up victories at the top and bottom of the lineup, but were unable to get past CU in the middle four positions.

Sophomore Gerhard Posch earned NU’s first point with a come-from-behind 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1, victory over Digliodo at the No. 1 position, while junior Joel Reckewey downed Justin Rofel, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 6 slot. Rivera nearly added another win for the Huskers before falling in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, to Bundalo at the No. 2 slot. Barthel, Jeff Nabity and James Clow eached dropped straight-set matches as the Buffaloes cruised to the victory.

The Huskers return to action on March 15, when NU plays host to nationally ranked Texas at the Woods Tennis Center. The match will start at 2 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
