Austin, Texas -- Day one of the 2004 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships is complete, as the first two events of the meet were contested Wednesday evening at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
The first relay contested was the 200-yard medley relay. NU's team made up of senior Angie Matheu and freshmen Mallory Keathley, Bailey Ingles and Michelle Criss finished in sixth place in a time of 1:44.61, just behind Missouri's relay team (1:43.82). Texas won the event, finishing in a time of 1:38.71.
The second event contested for the evening was the 800-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Alex King and freshmen Lauren Bailey, Kate Wheeler and Julie McCauley also finished the relay in sixth place, touching the wall in a time of 7:31.87. Texas A&M took home first, finishing the race in a time of 7:12.98.
The meet continues on Thursday morning with preliminary heats beginning at 10 a.m. and final heats beginning at 6 p.m. Results will be available following each event at www.texassports.com.
