Lincoln - Nebraska free safety Josh Bullocks was honored Wednesday, as he was named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News and by SI.com.
The sophomore from Chattanooga, Tenn., leads the nation with 10 interceptions, averaging 0.83 interceptions per game, entering the Huskers’ Dec. 29th matchup with Michigan State in the Mastercard Alamo Bowl. His 10 interceptions set a school and Big 12 record and were the most by a conference defensive back since 1951. A Thorpe Award semifinalist, Bullocks is second among Nebraska defensive backs with 46 tackles, while also ranking third on the team with five pass breakups.
Bullocks has helped the Husker defense lead the nation in pass efficiency defense (90.32 points) while ranking sixth in scoring defense (15.4 points per game) and 14th in total defense (307.4 yards per game). He is the second Husker to be awarded first-team All-America honors this season, joining punter and Ray Guy Award finalist Kyle Larson.
Bullocks was one of four Huskers selected by SI.com for their All-America team, as Larson, offensive tackle Richie Incognito and linebacker Demorrio Williams were all honorable-mention choices.
