Huskers Host SMS this Weekend

Lincoln-After a dominating performance against Southern Illinois, the Huskers look to move to 2-0 in dual action on the season with Southwest Missouri State coming to Lincoln on Sat., Nov. 8, for a dual meet set that begins at noon.

 

The Bears are 2-1 on the young season, with wins over Louisiana-Monroe and Delta (Miss.) State. SMS fell to LSU in its only loss of the season.The Bears are fresh off a first-place finish over Arkansas-Little Rock and McMurray  at the 2003 Hendrix Classic, in which SMS won six events and set a pair of pool records.

 

SMS returns the Missouri Valley Freshman Swimmer of the Year in sophomore Courtney Phillips, a distance freestyle specialst who is the defending MVC champ in the 200- and 1,650-yard freestyle events.

 

The Bears also have one of the top backstrokers in the MVC in junior Lindsey Probizanski. Probizanski earned runner-up honors in the conference in the 100-yard back last season.

 

The Huskers remain strong in the distance events, with Big 12 swimmer of the month nominee Lauren Bailey leading the charge. Against Southern Illinois, Bailey won both the 500- and 1,000-yard free, the only individual events that she was entered.

 

SMS will face Kansas in Lawrence on Oct. 7, before travelling to Lincoln.

 

The meet marks the first time that the Huskers and the Bears have faced each other in the pool.
