Huskers Travel to Minnesota For Invitational

Lincoln-The Nebraska swimming and diving team travels to Minneapolis this weekend to compete at the Minnesota Invitational where it will face stiff competition, including No. 10 Wisconsin and No. 25 Minnesota. The meet begins on Friday, Nov. 21 and continues thru Sunday, 23, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday.

The Huskers look forward to an improvement on their 11th-place finish in the Minnesota Invitational last year. The team has begun to post solid times early in the season, including a pair of record-setting swims at Truman State by freshmen Bailey Ingles and Kate Wheeler. Against the Bulldogs, Ingles picked up first-place finishes last weekend in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly contests and Wheeler touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle contest.

NU will continue to experiment with the lineup in the distance events, as the Huskers are solid with sophomores Mackenzie Clark, Alex King and Esmie Holderman along with freshmen Lauren Bailey, Kate Wheeler and Casey Schnack all available as well. Last weekend in Missouri, the coaching staff used a different lineup against Truman State and Missouri in both of the distance events.

Nebraska will be one of 10 teams competing at the invite, which will also feature Division I schools Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami (Ohio) and Florida Atlantic. The rest of the field includes Carleton College, North Dakota, St. Cloud State and St. Olaf College.

Competition begins on Friday morning with preliminary heats beginning at 10 and finals starting at 6 p.m. The schedule remains the same on Saturday. On Sunday, preliminary heats begin at 10 a.m., and finals start at 3 p.m. Diving contests begin at 1:30 p.m. all three days of the meet.
