Huskers Tame Bulldogs, 149-113

Kirksville, Mo.-Bolstered by several strong swims, including four pool records, the University of Nebraska swimming team downed the Truman State Bulldogs Saturday afternoon in Kirksville, Mo., 149-113. The Huskers won eight of the 14 events contested.

With the win, NU improves to 3-1 on the season.

Freshman Bailey Ingles won a pair of events and set a pair of Pershing Natatorium records on Saturday, taking the 200-yard butterfly in 2:06.03 and the 100-yard butterfly in 57.45.

The distance events were the key for the Huskers. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, freshman Kate Wheeler placed first. Wheeler, who won the event Friday night at Missouri, touched the wall in 10:14.11, which also set a pool record. Freshman Lauren Bailey picked up the win in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:02.17.

Sophomore Danielle Erickson also picked up an individual title in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 59.30, while freshman Julie McCauley won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.31) for the second night in a row.

The relay teams came up big, as NU won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:54.42 (Erickson, sophomore Rachel Schlatter, Ingles, McCauley), which also set a pool record. The 400-yard freestyle relay (freshman Michelle Criss, McCauley, senior Angie Matheu, Bailey), was also a winner, as the Huskers finished in 3:33.22.

Nebraska also registered seven runner-up finishes on the day.

The Huskers return to action on Nov. 22, as NU travels to Minneapolis to compete at the Minnesota Invitational.
