Herbie to Celebrate 30th Birthday on Saturday

Lincoln -- Herbie Husker will celebrate his 30th birthday in style and will work hand in hand with the U.S. Marines as they collect for their Toys for Tots program outside of Memorial Stadium this Saturday. Marines will be on hand at the stadium gates collecting toys or monetary donations to be given to needy children this Christmas, before the Kansas State - Nebraska football game on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Marines will begin collecting two hours prior to kickoff. Please do not wrap the toys.

In addition, Herbie will assist in collecting toys for children at the Husker Nation Pavilion beginning three hours before kickoff. Those fans who bring a toy, in lieu of a gift for Herbie, will receive a piece of birthday cake and may have their picture taken with Herbie (fans are asked to please bring their own camera). Herbie made his debut at the 1973 Cotton Bowl.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the University of Nebraska athletic department and the U.S. Marines have worked together to assist the Toys for Tots program.
