Forgive quarterback Brett Lindstrom if you see him taking pictures as the season progresses. The senior from Millard West is just trying to capture the fleeting moments of his career as a Husker.
Lindstrom has spent time on both defense and under center. Despite the position changes, Lindstrom still believes in his decision to come to NU.
"I think everybody wonders what would have happened if they would have gone somewhere else to play," Lindstrom said. "I don’t regret coming to Nebraska, a lot of good things have come about because of it. Overall everything has been fun. It’s been a good experience, I’ve met a lot of great guys and I have a lot of good memories."
Despite seeing action in just four games over the past four seasons, Lindstrom has received press because of his off-field exploits in the band ?Golliday’ with former Husker quarterback Joe Chrisman.
"That’s one of the good things about the experience here," Lindstrom said. "Who knows where that would be if I wouldn’t have met Joe Chrisman. A lot of people have done stories about it and heard about the band, and I hope it’s because we are good and not just because we play football."
Lindstrom has also battled the injury bug as he has tried to work his way up the depth chart.
"It’s been hard through the injuries," Lindstrom said. "My freshman year was rough. I broke my foot the first month and ended up switching to quarterback. Last season, I broke my foot again, during the first week of practice, so it has been tough."
Working as the scout team quarterback during his freshman and sophomore seasons taught Lindstrom resiliency.
"My freshman and sophomore year, I tried to do the best I could to get the team prepared for the game that week," Lindstrom said. "I got a few of the scout team player-of-the-week awards and that was my game. Every day during practice, I had to walk out and play a game."
Lindstrom comes from a Husker family. His father, Dan, was a defensive end for NU from 1978 to 1980 while his uncle, Roger, was a wingback from 1983 to 1985.
"Being a Nebraska kid, you dream about playing for the Huskers," Lindstrom said. "My dad played here, so I wanted to carry on that tradition."
A two-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection, Lindstrom is a history major who is on pace to graduate in May 2004. After graduation, he plans to follow his father into another field.
"After graduation I’ll be working with my dad at Piper Jaffray, working with investments," Lindstrom said. "I’ll start working with his clients and finding my own. I want to be the best at whatever I do."
No matter where life takes him, Lindstrom knows he has learned the keys to success.
"I’ve learned a lot during my time here," Lindstrom said. "I know how to handle situations. I’ve been through ups and downs since I came here. It’s made me strong mentally and that will be with me wherever I go and in everything I do."
