Salt Lake City, Utah ? Nebraska junior Gitte Ostermann upset top-seeded and 24th-ranked Urska Juric of Missouri, 6-3, 6-2, Saturday afternoon to advance to the ITA Central Regional Championship final Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Fourth-seeded Ostermann will face Oklahoma’s Anda Perianu, who is seeded second and is ranked 40th in the ITA preseason rankings.
With the win, Ostermann improved to 11-1 in the fall season and 4-1 in the ITA regional tournament.
Ostermann will be the only Husker competing Sunday. Sophomore Milena Schulz-Gartner lost in the semifinals of the consolation bracket Saturday, falling 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) to A. Anna Dybicz of Arkansas. Schulz Gartner (3-3) secured a spot in the semifinals late Friday with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Boise State’s Alisa Ayling.
Also late Friday, Ostermann and doubles partner Katie Garcia advanced to the round of 16 in the main draw but fell to Kansas’ Emily Haylock and Kristen Steinbeck, 8-4. In other doubles action, seniors Leslie Harvey and Rose Ketmayura lost to Daniela Muscolino and Ilona Somers of Tulsa, 8-4.
