Schulz-Gartner Advances at ITA Regionals

Salt Lake City, Utah -- Nebraska sophomore Milena Schulz-Gartner went 2-0 Friday afternoon in the consolation bracket at the ITA Central Region Championships hosted by Utah. Schulz-Gartner, who lost Wednesday in the pre-qualifying round, defeated Air Force’s Kate Bushey, 6-4, 6-3, and Montana State’s Vera Vasileva, 6-4, 6-4.

Schulz Gartner (2-2) will play the winner of Alisa Ayling of Boise State and Amanda Helberg of Saint Louis in the consolation quarterfinals late Friday night.

The only other Husker competing in the consolation bracket Friday was NU senior Leslie Harvey, who fell to Colorado’s Jessica Vaderdys, 6-3, 6-3.

Eight of the nine members of the Husker women’s tennis team are competing in the ITA Regionals, a five-day tournament that started Wednesday. Finals for all singles and doubles flights are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26.
