Lincoln -- An exciting season of Nebraska basketball is just around the corner. The Husker men's basketball team officially tips off the season next weekend on Saturday, Oct. 18, with its first full team practice at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Fans looking for a chance to see the Huskers prior to the Nov. 10 preseason opener against Alaska-Fairbanks will be treated to an intrasquad scrimmage on Oct. 29, as part of Husker Haunted Hoops. The event, in its third consecutive season, will feature trick-or-treating for the kids on the Devaney Center concourse, along with best costume contests, games and prizes. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for children to trick-or-treat, and admission is free of charge to the general public. More than 5,000 fans were on hand for the activities and scrimmage over the past two seasons.
"This has been a successful event for the fans and our team the past two years. We look forward to getting out on our home court for the first time this year, where Husker fans have supported us well during the season," said NU head coach Barry Collier.
The Huskers, who return 11 letterwinners and five starters including junior guard Jake Muhleisen, will then hold a 20-30 minute scrimmage for the public starting at 7:30 p.m. Following the scrimmage, the players and coaches will be available to greet the public during an autograph signing session.
Nebraska opens regular-season play on Nov. 22 against Fairleigh-Dickinson at the Devaney Center. The Huskers will play nine non-conference contests at home, including games against Arizona State, Tennessee and South Florida, before getting into league action where they will take on Kansas, Missouri, Iowa State, Colorado, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas Tech at the Devaney Center.
Season ticket packages are still available, including an outstanding deal that will let fans see all 19 home contests (including preseason games) for just $99. Contact the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office at (402) 472-3111 or (800) 8BIGRED, or log onto Huskers.com for more information.
