Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska football team went through two hours of work in sweats Monday at Memorial Stadium in its first practice concentrating on Big 12 opponent Missouri. The Huskers, ranked 10th and 7th in the Associated Press and Coaches polls, and Tigers kick off at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. The game will be seen on TBS (channel 16 in Lincoln).
Head Coach Frank Solich was pleased with the Huskers' effort Monday, a day that is not normally known for crisp, focused practices.
"I thought guys moved around well and appeared to be focused," Solich said. "Sometimes in the past, Monday has been the tough day, after a day off on Sunday, to get going again. That doesn't seem to be the case with these guys. It was a good practice."
Solich also noted that true freshman Greg Austin did a good job in his first action of the year against Troy State.
"I thought he did well. He showed he is a very explosive player for us," Solich said. "He pulls very well, comes off the ball and has excellent punch. It's all matter of just feeling more and more comfortable with the offense, and I think that will continue to come for him."
The Big 12 Conference office announced Monday that ABC will utilize one of its three yearly six-day picks for the weekend of Oct. 18. While Nebraska's game with Texas A&M was not picked for the 2:30 p.m. ABC regional broadcast, it is one of five games currently being considered for an 11:30 a.m. or 6 p.m. broadcast on Fox Sports Net. The Big 12 will announce which games were selected for broadcast on Sunday, Oct. 12.
