Rivera Falls in Finals at Louisville Fall Invitational

Louisville, Ky. -- After a solid run that included four straight victories, junior Jose Rivera fell in the finals of the ?B' Flight singles main draw Sunday at the Louisville Fall Invitational at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky. Rivera was the only member of the Husker men's tennis team to reach the final day of three-day, 14-team tournament.

Entering the weekend as the No. 1 seed in the flight, Rivera cruised through his first four matches, sweeping three opponents in two sets. The only set he lost came in the quarterfinals, where he rebounded from the first-set setback to win two straight and advance. Rivera's winning streak ended Sunday, as he fell in the championship match to unseeded Freddy Gomez of Toledo, 6-0, 6-4.

Despite the setback, Rivera finished the weekend with a 4-1 mark and now leads the Huskers in victories (5) in the fall season. Last spring, Rivera, who primarily played in the doubles rotation, had a 2-6 mark in singles action and was 8-13 in doubles play.

Nebraska returns to action at the Wisconsin Fall Invitational in Madison, Wis. The Huskers start play at approximately 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10. The tournament runs through Sunday, Oct. 12.
