Larson Earns Big 12 Honor

Dallas, Texas --  University of Nebraska punter Kyle Larson (Funk, Neb.) has been named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for games of Sept. 25-27 in voting by a select panel of media covering the Big 12. The award marks Larson's third career Big 12 honor, marking the first time in league history that a punter received the award more than twice in their career since the award was created in 1997.

Larson had a standout game at Southern Mississippi in a 38-14 nationally-televised (ESPN) win for the Huskers. He bettered his season high on two punts of 63 and 67 yards and pinned the Golden Eagles inside their own 20-yard line on three of his seven punts. Larson, a Ray Guy Award semifinalist in 2002, had a season-high average of 47.6 yards while punting on the field where Guy made his name. On the season, Larson raised his average to 41.7 yards per punt, and he has buried opponents inside the 20 on 8-of-17 punts.

Larson is the fourth Husker honored (also WLB Demorrio Williams, IB Josh Davis and PK David Dyches) by the conference for their weekly honor this season. Larson and the No. 12/8 (AP/Coaches) Huskers will be in action this Saturday, Oct. 4, against Troy State. Kickoff for the non-televised game is set for 12:30 p.m., with the Pinnacle Sports radio broadcast coverage beginning at 7:30 a.m.
