Huskers in Eighth Place at Kansas Invitational

Lincoln -- The Nebraska men's golf team posted scores of 292 and 302 on Monday for a two-round score of 594, good for a tie for eighth place after the first day of the Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan.

 

The Huskers opened the day with strong opening round of 292 and stood in third place after the morning round. However, the Huskers struggled to a 302 in the afternoon and fell back to an eighth-place tie with Illinois State. Host Kansas leads the team race with a two-round total of 571, 12 shots better than Wichita State. Nebraska is just eight shots out of third place, currently held by North Texas at 586.

 

Individually, Nebraska freshman Brady Schnell continues a strong start to his collegiate career. Schnell opened the day with a 75 in the morning round, but rebounded with a three-under par 69 in the afternoon, good for an even-par 144 total through two rounds. Schnell's effort leaves him in a tie for eighth place with Wichita State's Cameron Bishop and Kansas' Gary Woodland. Kansas' Andrew Price leads the individual race with an 8-under par 136 total.

 

Redshirt freshman Drew Reynolds is two shots behind Schnell in 15th place after rounds of 72 and 74, followed by J.J. Sullivan (40th, 150), Chris Hartwig (69th, 155) and Judd Cornell (82nd, 162). Freshman Thomas Bethel is competing as an individual and is tied for 44th place at 151.

 

The tournament concludes with the third and final round on Tuesday morning at Alvamar Golf Club, beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
