Huskers Continue Southern Miss Preparations

Lincoln-The University of Nebraska football team worked out for one hour and forty minutes Wednesday afternoon on the grass fields north of Memorial Stadium in preparation for the Sept. 25 game at Southern Miss.

Head Coach Frank Solich was pleased with the way that practice went on Wednesday.

'Practice went really well,' Solich said. 'They're tired. We went in full pads today and cut practice time down, but we worked them pretty hard. We did go with some one on one's today with the one offense going against the one defense on an inside drill for ten minutes, so they banged around a little bit.

'Their attitude remains excellent and their work ethic remains excellent. It will be important for us to keep pushing through this week and not remain stagnant. We need to work on improving, timing and all of those things that make you a good football team. I think they understand that and work with that in mind.'

Solich also announced that redshirt freshman offensive tackle Jemayel Phillips is no longer on the team.

'I did speak with him today,' Solich said. 'He has some issues that he needs to handle. It is a situation where he is not on this football team, at this point he will continue to go to school and work on his grades.'

Solich declined to speculate whether or not Phillips would be able to return to the team.

The Huskers will continue preparations for the Golden Eagles on Thursday.
