Two Huskers Earn Big 12 Honor

Dallas ? A pair of Nebraska football players were honored Monday, as the Big 12 Conference announced its weekly awards. Senior I-back Josh Davis was selected as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman David Dyches was selected as the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Davis enjoyed a career day, rushing for 179 yards on 32 carries in the Huskers' 18-10 win over Penn State. The Loveland, Colo., set personal bests for carries (32) and yards (179), highlighted by a career-long 42-yard run. Davis, whose previous career best was 95 yards against Oklahoma State in the season opener, had the highest rushing total by a Husker I-back since Dan Alexander had 208 vs. San Jose State on Sept. 2, 2000, and the most by any Husker since Jammal Lord's 234 against Texas last season. Davis carried the Huskers on their game-winning drive, rushing for 49 yards, as he rushed on seven consecutive plays.

Dyches continued his impressive run, connecting on four field goals for the second straight week. He was 4-of-5 on field goals, including kicks of 36, 35, 41 and 32 yards, and became the first Husker kicker to hit four field goals in consecutive games. In just two career games, he now holds two of the top-five kicking performances in school history. His eight field goals rank second nationally, while his 4.00 field goals per game would rank first nationally, but he has only played in two of NU's three games.

The Huskers are 3-0 and ranked 15th nationally in both major polls after last Saturday's win over the Nittany Lions. The Huskers will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 25, when they travel to Southern Miss for a nationally televised game with the Golden Eagles. Kickoff for the ESPN broadcast is set for 6:45 p.m. (CDT).
