Green Turns Heads at Husker Camp

Lincoln - The Nebraska football team continued the first portion of fall camp with a two hour and 15 minute workout inside of Memorial Stadium Thursday afternoon.

"The second day of practice was a long one, but they worked their way through it," Head Coach Frank Solich said. "We ran a couple of gassers and they pushed themselves through it."

The Huskers practiced in sweats for the second straight day as temperatures stayed in the mid-80s in Lincoln. While the weather was a little cooler then during previous fall camps, Solich said that one area where the coaching and the nutrition staff were being careful about was the area of conditioning.

"With the training table now open, many of the players are eating better then they did all summer and that can be a problem if you are not careful," Solich said. " We are monitoring their weight both before and after practice and should have a good handle at where we are at conditioning-wise and gaining weight."

The Huskers were still waiting for the arrival of offensive lineman Darren DeLone, as the 6-5, 320-pound linemen was finishing up some academic work back in California.

"Right now, we are anticipating that he will be here shortly, but we are taking that day-by-day at this point," Solich said.

One player who has impressed the Husker coaches do far is freshman I-back Tierre Green. The Omaha Bensen product has shown versatility during the first two days of drills. Green is the cousin of Green Bay Packer All-Pro Ahman Green, and the Husker Head Coach, who was Ahman?s position coach at Nebraska, sees a similarity in both players.

"He has good speed and quickness and very good vision as a running back," Solich said. "His style reminds me of Ahman (Green) but he?s got to grow into being Ahman, but that is the type of fluidity that he has. He is a very tough and physical player, but he has to fill out some."

Solich said Green could find the field in a variety of ways, whether it is returning punts or on punt coverage, where his speed could be utilized.

The Huskers hit the field Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for the third day of fall camp. Solich and players, including freshman Brandon Teamer and Ryan Schuler will be available for interviews.
