Big 12 Releases Football Schedules from 2004 to 2007

Lincoln  -- The Big 12 Conference has released the league portions of the football schedule for the years 2004 through 2007. The Nebraska series' with Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas Tech are renewed in 2004 and 2005, while the series' with Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State are discontinued for the same two-year period. Per the scheduling format established when the Big 12 Conference was formed in 1996, Nebraska will continue to play each of the five schools in the Big 12 North Division (Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri) on an annual basis. The Nebraska - Colorado series will continue to be played on Thanksgiving weekend, a tradition that began the first year of the Big 12. The actual date will be determined by television prior to the season.

Nebraska still has several non-conference holes to fill in those years, including one on its 2004 schedule. Athletic Director Steve Pederson said filling those games are a priority, but it is apparent with the tough league schedule in place, that Husker fans can look forward to great competition in Memorial Stadium over the next five years.

"I think that Nebraska fans will look at these schedules and see some tremendous football coming to Memorial Stadium and a great challenge overall," Pederson said, "When you play in the best league in the country, every week you line up against the finest competition."

Head Football Coach Frank Solich said, "No matter how you draw it up, the Big 12 is a strong, competitive league. Even if you sat down and tried to arrange it in your favor, you would be hard-pressed to do so, as every Big 12 team presents challenges."
