Lincoln, Neb. - A handful of Nebraska track and field athletes competed at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Friday and Saturday, while the majority of the team went to Kansas to compete in the Kansas Relays before extended rain showers eventually forced the Huskers to return to Lincoln on Saturday afternoon.
Artur Wszelaki had the best performance of the day, finishing fourth in the invitational section of the javelin throw with a mark of 220-2. Competing in the university section of the javelin, Colin Damas took eighth place and qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships for the first time this season with a throw of 201-10. Zach Josephson finished 13th with a mark of 190-8 for 13th place in the university section.
The men's distance crew had a solid meet, including two new NCAA Regional qualifying performances in the 800-meter run by Lucas Bauman and Chris Burns. Bauman and Burns finished first and second, respectively, in their heat, while Bauman (1:50.86) took 12th place overall and Burns (1:51.13) was 15th.
Anne Shadle led the women's crew with a season-best time of 4:29.96 in the 1,500 meters to win her heat and finish 18th overall. Ann Gaffigan went 4:31.90 for a fourth-place finish in her heat.
In the men's 1,500 meters, James Bowler won his heat and was ninth with a time of 3:45.90.
Shaun Kologinczak finished sixth in the men's invitational section of the high jump, clearing a height of 6-11 1/2.
The Huskers will split up again next weekend to compete in the Penn Relays and the Drake Relays.
