Nebraska senior, Jessica Wertz, is one of 26 newly selected members of the Black Masque Chapter of Mortar Board. The Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Wertz carries a 3.57 grade-point average in biological sciences and is a three-time National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) Scholastic All-American.
"We are very proud that she was selected to be a member of the Mortar Board," head coach Dan Kendig said. "It is an honor which many do not receive and we are very proud of all her achievements inside and outside of the gym."
Wertz has been an incredible asset to the women's gymnastics team during the 2003 season on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. She scored a perfect 10 on the vault against Big 12 rival Oklahoma and continues to be a steady force on the uneven bars posting consistent scores. In addition, she has contributed on the floor exercise scoring 9.875s against Iowa and Missouri.
The Huskers' next dual will be against Penn State, Saturday, March 1 at 6 p.m. in University Park, Pa.
