Husker Rifle Team Places Sixth at Roger Withrow Invitational

Murray, Ky.-The Nebraska rifle team recorded a team score of 5,986 to place sixth at the 2003 Roger Withrow Invitational Saturday in Murray, Ky. Tennessee Tech captured the team title with a score of 6,179, while Murray State finished second (6,157) and Jacksonville State (6,149) took third.

 

The Huskers also finished sixth in both the smallbore and the air rifle. Senior Amanda Trujillo was the top individual finisher for the Huskers, placing fourth overall after shooting a 1,164 in the smallbore (fourth) and 389 in the air rifle (T-sixth). Sophomore Laura Johnson also earned a top-20 individual finish, as she fired a 1,122 in the smallbore (22nd) and 384 in the air rifle (15th) to place 16th overall.

 

Junior Karen Aspden and freshman Kiki Chosid rounded out the team scoring for the Huskers, as Aspden finished tied for 11th in the air rifle (385) and Chosid finished 32nd in the air rifle. The pair tied for 32nd in the smallbore with a score of 1,090. Overall, Aspden placed 23rd and Chosid 29th.

 

The Huskers return to action Feb. 7 when they take on the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
