Huskers Honored with NSCAA All-America Awards

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recognized the Nebraska soccer team with the NSCAA Team Academic Award, as well as naming senior Breanna Boyd as a first-team academic All-American and senior Christine Latham as a third team All-American for the 2002 season.

 

The Huskers were recognized by the NSCAA as a team for having a 3.11 grade point average for the 2001-02 academic year. 

 

Boasting a 3.38 GPA in biological sciences, Boyd has led the NU defense over the past four years.  The Calgary, Alberta, native received first-team All-Big 12 Conference honors for the third consecutive season and was honored as a member of the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII team in 2002.  She has also been a first-team academic All-Big 12 member for the past three years. 

 

On the field, Boyd helped Nebraska post a 0.86 goals-against average in 2002 and scored three goals on the season to bring her career total to 12.

           

Latham was honored on the NSCAA All-America team for the third consecutive year, after knocking out several NU career records in 2002, including points (167), goals (69), game-winning goals (23), multiple-goal games (17), and shots (400).  She was recognized as a Hermann M.A.C. trophy award finalist for the third year and was named the Big 12 Conference Tournament Offensive MVP in 2002.  Latham was also honored as a first-team All-Big 12 Conference Team for her third consecutive season.

 

Nebraska wrapped up its season with a 16-6-3 record and a 3-2 loss to Santa Clara University in the NCAA Sweet 16.  The Huskers will have to replace departing seniors Boyd and Latham, as well as Kori Saunders and Leah Lamale for the 2003 season.
