Three Huskers Named To Verizon Academic All-District Team

Lincoln, Neb. – Three University of Nebraska soccer players were distinguished Thursday when they were named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII team.

Seniors Breanna Boyd, Leah Lamale and junior Kelly Haxton were all honored for their outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom this season.  All three of the Huskers were also named to the first-team All-Big 12 Conference Academic squad earlier this week.

Boyd carries a 3.38 GPA in biological sciences and was voted onto the first-team All-Big 12 conference team by the league for her third-consecutive season on Monday.  The Calgary, Alberta, Canada, native has helped Nebraska post 11 shutouts this season and a 0.86 goals-against average as the NU leader on defense.

Lamale boasts an outstanding 3.912 cumulative GPA in biological sciences.  Lamale scored her first collegiate goal and added her second career assist against Belmont earlier in the season.  The West Des Moines, Iowa, native moved from goalkeeper to the forward position in her final season at Nebraska.

Haxton has also been an important element in the Nebraska defense in 2002 for the Huskers.  The junior defender has posted a 3.639 GPA in marketing.  The Calgary, Alberta, Canada, native has started 11 contests for NU this season and has taken eight shots on the year.

Nebraska will begin its postseason run Thursday night at the Big 12 Conference Tournament when the Huskers face Kansas at 7:30 p.m. at the Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
