Lincoln -- The Nebraska swimming and diving team continues its season-opening homestand this weekend as the Huskers play host to Nevada in a dual meet Thursday night before Houston and Drury come to Lincoln for the Nebraska Sprint Challenge and the Husker Invitational.
Despite facing Nevada numerous times at invitational meets, Thursday will mark the first time in school history that the two teams are meeting in a dual setting. Nevada is the third dual meet opponent that NU is facing for the first time. Nebraska has already faced Truman State and Texas this season for the first time in school history.
The Sprint Challege features short sprint races, and all of the relay events are split in half. The meet is fast-paced and a unique experience for fans and athletes.
The Sprint Challenge was held annually from 1994 until 2000. During those seven meets, NU won sprint titles in 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2000. At the last Sprint Challenge in 2000, NU defeated UNLV for the team title, outscoring the Rebels 69-53. Drury (51 points) and Nevada (40 points) finished third and fourth, respectively.
The Husker Invitational will be contested all day Saturday at the Devaney Center Pool. The last time Nebraska hosted the meet, NU downed Nevada, 363-325 to take the team title. Drury finished fourth (260).
Following the competition this weekend, the Huskers are off before they play host Wyoming on Nov. 8.
