Tucson, Ariz. -- The second-ranked Nebraska volleyball team defeated No. 11 Arizona 23-30, 30-19, 30-15, 32-30 on Saturday in the Huskers' final match of the Wildcat Classic at Arizona's McKale Center. With the win, the Huskers improved to 4-1 and the Wildcats fall to 3-2.
After a tough game one, the Huskers rebounded with eight service aces to take game two. Serving proved key in a game where the hitting percentages were low for both teams, as Nebraska only hit .165 and Arizona at a .140 clip. The Huskers made up for it with 15 service aces, while Arizona committed 15 service errors.
Outside hitters Laura Pilakowski and Jennifer Saleaumua led the Huskers with nine kills each, while middle blocker Melissa Elmer hit .250 with eight kills. Outside hitter Anna Schrad had a match-high five service aces for the Huskers.
The Arizona Wildcats' Lisa Rutledge had a match-high 15 kills on the day.
Next up, the Huskers take on Santa Clara in the US Bank/Arby's Classic at the NU Coliseum on Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m.
