No.7 Nebraska (1-0-1) will begin it's second week of regular-season play against Belmont University (0-2-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Abbott Sports Complex. The Bruins have struggled in their first two games of the season, losing to Murray State, 6-1, before falling to Southeast Missouri, 8-0.
Kerry Powell scored the Bruins lone goal of the season, while Belmont goalkeeper, Ali Young, has given up 14 goals on 53 attempts and has accumluated 12 saves for a 7.0 goals-against average.
After facing the Bruins on Friday, Nebraska will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the Florida Gators. Florida dropped its first two games of the sesaon last weekend to Cincinnati, 2-1, and No. 18 Michigan, 2-0. Florida was on the road for both games and returns home to take on No. 9 Connecticut Friday and No. 10 Nebraska Sunday.
Florida wrapped up the 2001 season in the NCAA College Cup, losing to eventual national champion Santa Clara, 3-2. The Gators were 21-4-1 on the season, winning the SEC championship.
UF returns seven starters to its lineup in 2002, but lost All-American Abby Wambach, who scored 31 goals for the Gators last season and totaled 76 points in her senior campaign. Florida returns midfielder Christine Johnson, who scored 23 points last season, as well as senior goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren, who accumulated a 0.62 goals-against average last year.
