Diedrick Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

Nebraska senior I-back Dahrran Diedrick has been named one of 42 preseason candidates for the 2002 Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top college running back.

Diedrick led the Big 12 Conference in rushing last season with 1,299 yards and 15 touchdowns, earning him first-team All-Big 12 honors. Diedrick rushed for 100 or more yards in seven of his 11 regular-season appearances and scored two or more touchdowns in five games.

Diedrick is one of four Big 12 players named to the preseason list, joining Texas' Cedric Benson, Colorado's Chris Brown and Quentin Griffin of Oklahoma. The SMU Athletic Forum will select eight semifinalists on November 19 and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will vote on the winner in late November. The 2002 Doak Wallker Award will be announced live on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002.
