Four More Huskers Named To Verizon Academic All-America Team

Lincoln, Neb. - Four Huskers were named to the men's and women's Verizon Academic All-America Track and Field Team Thursday.

On the men's side, sophomore distance runner Kyle Wyatt was named to the second team of the University Division with an overall grade point average of 4.00. Wyatt is a resident of Albion, Neb., and is majoring in English.

On the women's side, Nebraska was one of two schools to have three student-athletes named to the Academic All-America teams. Senior distance runner Jenna Lucas and senior thrower Melissa Price were selected for the University Division second team while senior multi-event athlete Katherine Livesey was named to the third team. Lucas and Livesey were both biological science majors and Price was a sociology major. All three graduated in May of 2002. It is the first Academic All America honor for each of the Huskers. Previously, Lucas and Livesey were named to the Academic All-Big 12 team in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Price was selected for the Academic All-Big 12 team in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2002.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) created the Academic All-America program, celebrating its 50th anniversary, in 1952. Verizon, in cooperation with CoSIDA, has been the exclusive sponsor of the Verizon Academic All-America Teams program since 1985. No other award acknowledges as many scholar-athletes for the hard work, success and balance they achieve in sports and academics.
