Lincoln, Neb. ----- Husker sophomore Kyle Wyatt has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII Track and Field/Cross Country Team (University Division).
Wyatt, who runs distance for the Huskers on both the track and cross-country team, was selected for the first team and will advance to the national Verizon Academic-All America ballot. The Husker from Albion, Neb., is majoring in English and currently has a GPA of 4.00. Ten individuals from across the nation were named to the team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In order to be nominated for the team, athletes had to have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. Nominated athletes also must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's meets.
This year marks the 50th year of the Academic-All America program, as the inaugural team was announced on December 6, 1952. Since that time, more than 12,000 students have been named Academic All-America team members from colleges and universities at all levels for every recognized NCAA sport.
