Lincoln, Neb. - Junior Lisa Wangler made a diving catch in left field in the top of the fifth to save two potential runs and lead the No. 4 Nebraska softball team to a 2-0 win over Iowa State Tuesday afternoon before 434 fans at Bowlin Stadium. Wangler was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, as the Huskers improved to 35-7 overall and 5-2 in the Big 12 Conference.
Leigh Ann Walker (19-2) was the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits and striking out four Cyclones. Erica Martinez (6-7) took the loss for ISU, allowing two runs on hits while striking out seven Huskers and walking two NU players. Iowa State fell to 13-13 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12.
The Huskers took control of the game with a two-run inning in the bottom of the third. Kim Ogee was hit by a pitch with one out, and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Leigh Suhr ripped an RBI single to right field, plating Ogee for the 1-0 advantage. Nicole Trimboli followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Suhr for the 2-0 lead.
Iowa State threatened to even the score in the top of the fifth. Kelly Wardein led off with a double that hit the left-center fence.
