Murray, Ky. - Sophomore Melissa Downsbrough and junior Amanda Trujillo were tabbed All-Americans by the National Rifle Association following the NCAA Championships in Murray, Ky., over the weekend. Downsbrough earned first-team honors in air rifle, while Trujillo was named to the second team in both air rifle and smallbore.
A native of State College, Pa., Downsbrough, who improved on her second-team selection in 2001, owned a season average of 388.3 in air rifle, which included a school-record score of 396 fired at the Roger Withrow Invitational in January.
In each of the past three years Trujillo, a Brush, Colo., native, has earned NRA second-team honors in smallbore and has twice been named to the air rifle second team, while also earning first-team accolades in 2001.
The NRA All-American award is issued to those rifle student-athletes who have a high season average, performed well in the NCAA qualifier, have a high grade-point average and have received recommendation from coaches.
