Komine Earns National and Big 12 Honor

Lincoln - University of Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine (Honolulu, Hawaii) was selected Monday as Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Week and the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance against McNeese State last Friday evening.

The two-time All-American pitched eight innings of one-hit ball and struck out 14 Cowboys in a 9-4 Husker victory. The 5-10, 175-pound right-hander faced one hitter over the minimum through eight frames and retired the last 15 hitters he faced in a 94-pitch performance. Komine's 14 strikeouts marked his 19th career double-figure strikeout performance and was his highest single-game total since fanning 16 against Missouri on April 14, 2000.

This season, Komine is 1-0 with 20 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings of work. He has held opposing hitters to a .082 average and has walked only one hitter in his first two outings. The honor marks the third time in his career that he has been chosen as Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Week.

Despite posting a 2-1 mark over the weekend, the Huskers dropped from 13th to 19th in the Collegiate Baseball and from 11th to 13th in the Baseball America poll released Monday afternoon. Nebraska, 3-3 on the season, heads to Fresno State for a three-game series beginning Thursday evening.
