Nebraska Falls to No. 8 Baylor

Waco, Texas. -- The Husker men's tennis team opened Big 12 Conference play with a loss to the eighth-ranked Baylor, 1-6.

In singles, Nebraska's only win came at the No. 4 position where senior Fungai Tongoona defeated 70th-ranked Matias Marin, 7-6 (6), 6-4. Senior Lance Mills fell to No. 8 Benjamin Becker, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, at the No. 1 spot. Junior Jacek Wolicki lost to No. 27 Markus Hornung, 2-6, 6-3, 2-6, in the No. 2 position, while at the No. 3 position, Zoltan Papp, ranked 41st in the nation, overpowered freshman Jose Hernan, 3-6, 3-6, putting an end to Hernan's undefeated record. Junior Jeff Nabity and freshman Joel Reckewey were both swept by their opponents in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Nabity fell to Nathan McGregor, 3-6, 3-6, while Reckewey lost to Armando Carasscosa, 3-6, 2-6.

In doubles play, Nebraska dropped all three matches to the Bears. Wolicki and Reckewey lost 6-8, to Hornung and McGregor in the No. 1 spot. The duo of Mills and Rivera fell to Papp and Reiner Neurohr, 3-8, at the No. 2 spot, while Becker and Mike Garcia defeated Tongoona and Hernan at the No. 3 position, 3-8.

Nebraska falls to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the Big 12. Baylor is now 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the Big 12 Conference. The Huskers return to action next weekend when they host St. Louis, Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
